The lodge

Five canvas tents for ten guests on the edge of the Mvubu plain, in the malaria-free Mabula Private Game Reserve.

Kwafubesi, the 'place of the giant eagle owl', is a small tented camp tucked into the tree line beside the Mvubu plain in the Mabula Private Game Reserve. Its five canvas tents stand on raised platforms with private decks, and it never takes more than ten guests.

Meals are served in a thatched lapa or around the boma fire, and the rate includes selected drinks and two game drives a day. Guests check in at Mabula Game Lodge and are driven the 20 minutes to camp; children are welcome from age 8.

Highlights

  • Only five tents and ten guests
  • Boma dinners, high tea and dinners on your own deck
  • Selected drinks and two game drives a day included
  • Malaria-free, about two hours from Johannesburg
