The lodge

Four solar-powered double tents in the Olifants West Nature Reserve in Balule, with an underground hide beside the waterhole and the whole camp bookable for eight guests.

Bundox Explorer Camp is a small tented camp in the Olifants West Nature Reserve, in Balule in the Greater Kruger, built around simple comfort rather than luxury. Its four double canvas tents each have twin beds with cotton linen, a fan, a small private deck and an en-suite bathroom with a flushing toilet and a bucket shower, with hot water on demand. The camp is off-grid and runs on solar power.

Morning and afternoon game drives include coffee stops at scenic hides and sundowner stops in the bush. Between drives, guests can watch wildlife from an underground photographic hide beside the waterhole, cool off in the plunge pool or have a picnic lunch beside the Olifants River. Evenings centre on the boma and a traditional potjie dinner, and a stargazing sleep-out can be arranged. The whole camp can be booked for exclusive use by up to eight guests.

  • Plunge pool and multi-level deck over the waterhole
